What a summer 2016 has been! We wanted to pick out a few of our highlights.
This year’s programme has been guided by the theme of historical Britain. We have delved into the dark history of the Romans, Saxons and Vikings. In this quest the students have written poems, stories and news reports. They have met Gods, studied Beowulf, whittled spears, made Saxon potions and started bonfires.
Our forest school was fantastic, led by specialist practitioners who took us out into the woods to play team games in nature. The amazing sunny weather has meant we’ve been outside a lot playing sports, games and challenges. We’ve also had barbecues, set up camp and had a whiz or two at high speed down a slip and slide.
Our first field trip was to Bath where we had a superb morning with the Natural Theatre Company who perform street theatre around Bath. We then visited the Roman baths with our very own Roman tour guides. Our next field trip immersed us into Viking life – I tell you, you wouldn’t want to face our student warriors in a Viking raid!
We have been so proud of how well everyone has worked together as a team in a huge variety of challenges and circumstances. That’s not always an easy thing to do and we have seen some real leadership and teamwork skills develop.
We think though, the proudest moment of all for the staff was our public speaking day. Every single student overcame their nerves to stand up in front of an audience and give a dramatic presentation. One of many great achievements we saw this year.
A highlight for everyone has to have been our day of movie making with a professional crew. Click here to watch our film Horrible Histories
The very best of luck to our students of The Summer Academy 2016. We hope to see all of you again soon.
